Research

[Photo at left: me looking for inspiration in the eyes of the Machiavelli sculpture outside the Uffizi museum in Florence.]

If you peruse my curriculum vita or my paper abstracts, you'll see that the key question underlying my scholarly research is, "To what extent does economic interdependence alter the patterns of world politics?" I've pursued the answer by studying the dynamics of economic statecraft, globalization, and global governance.

My current research spans a wide array of research quesions. Under what conditions will governments establish and enforce global rules to manage disparate domestic regulations? Will the proliferation of global governance structures lead to a rule-based global order? How will the rise of China and India affect world politics?
