I think you could have added how rising anti Americanism has made it politically much more popular to oppose a FTA. Kirchner and Lula both rose to power at least in part on anti US sentiment.

And yes, that's mainly due to Bush who is widely despised by Latin American voters.

A FTA would have always been difficult since Brazil has historically been suspicious of the US. But anti american sentiments have made it worse.

Al Gets Results From Daniel W. Drezner!!!

When Dan recently posted, after the end of the Red Sox season, that he wouldn't be posting about baseball for a while, I replied:
